Walking Therapy, What is it?
Walking therapy is another approach to face to face therapy. Essentially it is the same but in a different environment. Some people find sitting down face to face with a counsellor difficult, for many different reasons. Walking therapy allows the counsellor and client to walk side by side, movement can help some people think and process better and there is the added benefit of being outside.
Walking in nature can be a very refreshing and enhancing experience. There is increasing evidence to show that being out side in the fresh air not only improves our physical health but also our mental health. Living in the busy world today, we often forget to take a moment to connect with the outside world and notice the changes the seasons bring.
Tuning in to the changes happening in the natural world, can be a very useful tool to help us reflect on our own lives. It can allow us to look at the different paths we have decided to take and the choices we have made and how they have impacted us.
Being present with our surroundings can help shake off the pressures of life and give space to breathe and hear our thoughts, this can help to bring about a new perspective. Walking outside in the natural elements can be a grounding and up lifting experience.
