Hello and welcome.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor who is registered with the National Counselling Society.
Working as an integrative counsellor means I combine different concepts from different theories to find a way of working which fits you best. To begin with we will concentrate on the issues and difficulties you are facing in the present. Together we will decide if looking back into the past would be helpful to understand your present situation. Alternatively, we may look at what is to come and how you wish to move forward.
Trauma
The different experiences we have in life, both negative and positive, impact us and contribute to the way we behave in our lives and act in relationships. Sometimes negative or traumatic experiences, if not processed, can get stuck in the body and the mind. This can lead to unhealthy, unconscious behaviour, blocked or repressed emotions that then lead to depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions.
In counselling/therapy the aim is to uncover these emotions or shed light on unconscious behaviours, bringing about self awareness and in a lot of cases, self acceptance. With this new found knowledge of self, one can better navigate one's own individual life path with awareness, by letting go of old habits, unhelpful thinking, setting personal boundaries and being seen and heard.
You may have lost a sense of who you are and what you want from life. We can work out ways to help you understand yourself again and rediscover how you would like to live your life.
The foundation of my approach is to provide a space where you can talk freely without fear of judgement or reproach. Everyone has the right to be heard and valued and I hope to create an environment which encourages you to share and explore your thoughts and feelings.
We are all unique, therefore what works for one person may not work for another.
